“Brain Break” Transitions: Learning through Movement
At HWIS we maximize learning opportunities even during transitions. These one to two minute “brain breaks” where teachers may use music and movement give students the chance to decompress and learn in a more physical way. “Total Physical Response” or TPR is a very effective way to acquire a second language. Using different ways of learning also helps reinforce learning and brings fun and engagement in the classroom.
Engaging students physically as well as intellectually fosters a healthy, happy attitude in the classroom, and enhanced enthusiasm about the lesson at hand. Brain Breaks are also important to begin to convey to students a distinction between the types of behavior appropriate during work and play.
