ARCTIC TIE: The Core Values of HudsonWay Immersion School

The mission at HWIS is to help build the knowledge, skills & character of our students, so they can become meaningful global contributors and citizens of the world.

Our Core Values are the key principles that reflect the community at HWIS—the values of our leaders, staff, students, and parents. We are committed to the ongoing effort of living these values through our behavior, and in guiding all those with whom we work in a shared sense of purpose and awareness of being.

The English explorer Henry Hudson whose namesake provided an inspiration for the name of our school sought a passage from England to China via a route above the Arctic Circle. We use the mnemonic “ARCTIC TIE” to remember the 9 values important to HWIS.

Accountability….. We take responsibility for our individual and collective actions.

Respect….. We value, respect, and celebrate all members of our community.

Communication….. We communicate openly, honestly, and supportively. We strive to actively listen to one another.

Teamwork….. We recognize the talents of our students, staff, and community and that we can accomplish more together than individually.

Integrity….. We seek to do what is right and do what we say we are going to do.

Customer Service….. We put the interest of our stakeholders first. We aim to meet the needs of our students, parents, and staff.

Transparency….. We share information to enhance collaboration, cooperation, and collective decision making.

Innovation….. We foster creativity, encourage risk-taking, and continuously seek to improve ourselves and our school.

Excellence….. We commit to doing our best work and pursuing excellence.
