HWIS in the Community
In both our New York and New Jersey campuses, HWIS strives to be a pillar of the community, providing meaningful public programming for its neighbors year-round.
In February 2019, in both New York and New Jersey, we partnered with The Confucius Institute at New Jersey City University to present our first Chinese New Year Family Day, which featured an exciting array of Chinese New Year-themed performances including lion dances, dragon dances, and puppet shows, and activities like dumpling making and Chinese crafts & games.
In April, HudsonWay Immersion School’s First Trilingual Book Fair was held at 60 Riverside Boulevard in NYC. Open to families, attendees were joined by special guests Pete the Cat and Curious George for a multilingual celebration of books and culture, showcasing a variety of children’s titles in Spanish, Mandarin & English for sale.
In late April we hosted, at our Stirling campus, a Free Family Day in celebration of Earth Day, featuring fun ecologically minded crafts like Earth Art, Model Recycling, and Stained Glass Earth Sun-Catchers.
On July 25 and August 1 respectively, at the Summit Screen on the Green four-week screening event in Summit, NJ, HWIS co-sponsored screenings of Disney’s Mulan and Coco, at which we held a popular coloring competition in which four winners were awarded a month of free After School Mandarin or Spanish Language classes.
