Compare & Contrast
Critical thinking using a Venn diagram – Spanish elementary unit
Students work in teams of three using a Venn diagram to compare and contrast myths and legends in an elementary Spanish language arts class.
Instructed and completed entirely in Spanish, students develop reading comprehension, reasoning, critical thinking, language, and cooperative skills – all in the same lesson. They read traditional Latin American legends – providing a cultural context for comparison to American legends. In addition, they wrote and published their own legends. Differentiation is a crucial skill in developing reading comprehension. Each student within a group takes responsibility for various aspects of the task, and the group as a whole took responsibility for the finished product.
Working in teams is a core value at HWIS and reinforced throughout the years.
