Outcomes

Strong Academics in Two Languages

HWIS students performed 10-35 points above independent school norms across grades 2-8

HudsonWay students build strong academic skills alongside advanced biliteracy. The ERB Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP), a nationally recognized standardized assessment used by independent schools, provides an external measure of achievement in areas including reading and mathematics.
In Spring 2026, every HudsonWay grade tested performed above independent school norms in both Reading Comprehension and Mathematics.

Advanced Biliteracy

Nearly 2–4 Proficiency Levels Above National Averages

Beginning in Grade 3, HudsonWay students take the Avant STAMP assessment, a nationally recognized measure of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Results allow us to benchmark our students’ Mandarin and Spanish proficiency against national averages, with HudsonWay students consistently performing at substantially higher proficiency levels.

100% AP Success & Global Seal of Biliteracy

Each year, HWIS seventh graders are encouraged to sit for the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam or the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam. Every HWIS student who has taken one of these AP exams has scored a 3 or higher (out of 5) — and every one has gone on to qualify for the Global Seal of Biliteracy, a formal credential recognizing high-level proficiency in English and a second language.

Chinese-English Bilingual Spelling Bee

In Spring 2026, HudsonWay was selected as one of 12 pioneer schools from among 355 Chinese immersion schools nationwide to participate in the inaugural North American Chinese-English Bilingual Spelling Bee. HWIS students earned first place in all four divisions, with 13 of 20 competitors advancing to the CEBSB Global Finals in Hangzhou, China.

Chinese Bridge

Chinese Bridge is an international competition that challenges students to demonstrate their Mandarin proficiency, public speaking, and understanding of Chinese culture. For three consecutive years since 2024, HudsonWay students have earned top honors across every category and age division open to them. In 2026 four HWIS students, Ella Jones, Theodore Karanikolas, Benjamin Lau, and Malichi Goldbold, advanced to the final round of the Eastern Division.
